COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The Edgewood Foundation has been proud to sponsor such community improvements, programs, and partnerships in the past such as:

memorial park gazebo

The Edgewood Foundation was proud to join with local veterans’ groups and individual residents to offer support to Mr. Eddie Lockman in constructing the gazebo in Memorial Park. Mr. Lockman built the gazebo for members of the community as his Eagle Scout project. Mr. Lockman hoped to provide a sheltered place for the community to sit, reflect and appreciate the park and memorial.

c.c. Mellor memorial library

The Foundation has typically contributed to the C. C. Mellor Memorial Library to meet their specific requests to grow Edgewood Foundation sponsored Children's Collection, and build its online inventory of both audio and e-books.

Edgewood volunteer fire department

The Foundation also typically lends support to the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department by donating funds toward the purchase of needed materials.

the koenig field playground

The Edgewood Foundation spearheaded the funding and building of the new Koenig Field Playground. This giant project included gathering community support, choosing designs for safe play structures, and providing much of the funding to build the state-of-the-art play space. The structure will be enjoyed for many generations to come.

Edgewood symphony orchestra

The Foundation is proud to continue its sponsorship of the Edgewood Symphony.  This dynamic symphony is composed of talented amateur musicians from the greater Pittsburgh area.  They continue to impress us with their performances at our Community Day event, the Wine and Chocolate Affair, and the Holiday Concert held at the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood. As such a small community, we are grateful to have a Symphony to call our own and represent us in the local area.

Edgewood Parkway sign

The Edgewood Foundation funded the purchase and installation of the Edgewood Borough sign at the parkway interchange. The sign serves as a welcome to our beautiful community. Years after the installation of the sign, the Foundation built a retaining wall and planted gardens to update the area. Semi-annual beautification efforts are still supported by the Edgewood Foundation.

chess program at wpsd

For several years, the Edgewood Foundation provided funding to support a children’s Chess program at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. The program included children from the Edgewood Primary School, as well as WPSD students, and taught them the fundamentals of the game.

department of recreation hay wagon

In the late 1990s, the EF purchased a hay wagon for use by the Edgewood Borough. The wagon has been used for many years for haunted hayrides and community events providing shrieks, giggles, and fun to children of past generations and generations to come.

department of public works lunch

Every year in late July or early August, the Foundation provides lunch for the crew of the Department of Public Works. This is our way to show our appreciation for their hard work over the hot months of summer.

EDGEWOOD borough tree donation

As we have done in recent years, the Edgewood Foundation agreed to donate funds for trees to be planted in the Borough and for lighting. The donation funds for these items were remitted to the Borough in early 2019.

live theatre presentations

Historically, the Edgewood Foundation sponsored and organized live theater performances. These events included plays, musical performances, and talent shows, providing a stage for local actors, singers, and musicians to showcase their talents and entertain our community.

borough building message board

The Edgewood Borough approached the Edgewood Foundation to supply funding for a message board to be placed at the Edgewood Borough building. The Foundation funded the project and the message board can still be seen today on Race Street, providing community info to our residents and visitors.
