annual events
The Edgewood Foundation’s activities foster enhanced community interaction for Edgewood residents.
progressive dinner
The progressive dinner has been a winter staple since 1997. Hosting approximately 120-145 people every year at this event, this is our second largest fundraiser. This event brings together neighbors, new and old, for an evening of food and conversation and is a signature community event that makes Edgewood special. Residents graciously open their homes for appetizer parties, dinners, and desserts with the same welcoming feeling you get when you first move to the neighborhood.
senior brunch
Continuing the tradition started in 1986, the Foundation honors Edgewood graduating high school seniors with a brunch at the Edgewood Club. This event, which occurs every May, is attended by friends, family, and residents and is a perfect send-off for the kids of Edgewood, letting them know we care that they are part of our community. During this event, the Mel Douglass scholarship is given to a senior that shows leadership and volunteer commitment during their high school years.
newcomers’ reception
This event, typically held in the Edgewood Train Station, gives new residents an opportunity to meet with community representatives and other newcomers to learn more about our wonderful neighborhood. We love to host this event for our new residents who are able to learn about our borough and pick up information provided by the Foundation and local businesses.
community day
The Edgewood Foundation has partnered with the Borough in the past to support this event that has become the showcase that Edgewood children of all ages look forward to every year. This event features a big barbecue that benefits the Volunteer Fire Department, a beer garden and lots of fun and games for kids of all ages. Kids can win big prizes at the police raffle, while families can compete for a special prize at the Parks and Rec. tent. The whole day ends with a stellar performance by the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and Fireworks by Zambelli!
sleepover in the park
The participants are typically age ten and under who, along with their parents, pitch tents and sleep under the stars at Koenig Field. This is a back-to-basics, grassroots event that includes such down-home fun as roasting marshmallows and flashlight tag. In coordination with the Edgewood Police for safety, and the Edgewood Fire Department for our bonfire, it gives our residents a chance to enjoy a simple camping experience without the fuss of going elsewhere. Participants are usually greeted by donuts, juice, and coffee as they wake up the next morning in the cold fall air. This easy low-key event serves to build friendships and foster community spirit in Edgewood.
art night
This event has been wildly successful since its inception and has received a great response from the community and local artists. The types of art typically include paintings, photography, mosaic glass art, wood carving, handmade jewelry, and more. Edgewood’s public library offers free services to all residents, including access to other public libraries in the Carnegie Library system, computer internet connections, and extensive children’s programs.
oktoberfest
The Foundation’s Oktoberfest is usually held in September/October of each year since 2011. Typically, about 50-60 Edgewood residents come out to share in brats, beer, and fun in Koenig Field. The event also includes a pig roast and brings together a mix of older residents coming together with newer residents and a nice blend of families with children also playing games and enjoying the event.
fall festival
The Volunteer Fire Department, the Borough Manager, and the Foundation usually all work together to offer a fun evening in late October with hayrides, crafts, cookies, candy, cider, as well as, crafts being all included in the event.
wine & chocolate event
The event typically brings out over 100 Edgewood residents to sample the pairings of wine and chocolate and light appetizers in an elegant, yet friendly atmosphere. Admission cost and a substantial silent auction selection make the event one of our biggest fundraising events. Entertainment has included an Edgewood Symphony Ensemble performance and selection from a local jazz band. Above all, the Wine and Chocolate event gives Edgewood residents a reason to see old friends and make new ones, continuing to build our sense of community.
light up edgewood
Light Up Edgewood is an Edgewood tradition where families gather each year at Memorial Park to kick off the holiday season. This event is done in partnership with the Edgewood Fire Department. Usually, families gather at Memorial Park to wait for the firemen to arrive with Santa Claus, the guest of honor who lights our tree. After the tree lighting, all are usually invited back to the Edgewood Club for refreshments and a now traditional showing of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. At the club, the children have a chance to meet Santa and neighbors have a rare chance to catch up and visit during the busy holiday season.
LIGHT UP EDGEWOOD TOY DRIVE
A somewhat newer Light Up Edgewood tradition is the Edgewood Foundation Toy Drive. Toys are collected at the club for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program in the hopes that Edgewood children can help provide a nicer holiday to less fortunate children in the area. We are very proud of the number of toys we are able to collect and present to the representatives of the Marine Corps each year.
